basically calculating chess tactics can be
seen as finding a tactical maneuver from with in
a deep position. But there's also another way
this is seen. Lets first ask the question before
we attempt an answer. How do Chess grandmasters
calculate the outcome to a search.
Well some may think they do it
mathematically. If white can take the advantage
6 moves down the line by almost a pawn then
surly that line of play =around 0.5 to 0.9. Well
this approach might work well to a computer. But
for a human player its different.
Grandmasters In truth use labels. Simple ones.
They may say after looking ahead and arriving at a
position. This leads to more attack potential. Or
this leads to a silent game. It offers no
complexity. Or this is good or bad. And so on. Some
moves are considered aggressive. others less
aggressive to quiet moves. There's slow moves. So
grandmasters use simple labels. They may also
consider the variation possibilities with each line
of search they look at.
